Baby & Toddler Swimming Instructor – Aquanat, Alfred Cove
Alfred Cove, Perth | Casual, set days
Aquanat is looking for an experienced and caring Baby & Toddler Swimming Instructor to join our small team — offering above-award pay and a warm, family-feel workplace for the right person.
We're looking for a teacher who genuinely enjoys working with babies, young children and their parents, and who understands that learning in the water is about much more than getting a child from one side of the pool to the other, or following cookie-cutter lesson plans.
At Aquanat, we teach in a warm, gentle and child-centred environment. We believe children learn best when they feel safe, respected and confident, so we don't rush children through skills or expect every child to progress the same way or at the same pace. Instead, we pay close attention to the individual child — their developmental stage, temperament, confidence and readiness.
Our teaching places particular emphasis on breath control, buoyancy, body awareness, water safety, and enjoyment of the water, while nurturing the relationship between babies and young children and their parents.
Who we're looking for
You may already be an experienced swimming instructor, but you're also someone who stays curious and keeps learning.
Ideally, you will:
- Be a qualified swimming instructor with substantial experience teaching babies, toddlers, young children and their parents.
- Be calm, patient and observant — particularly with children who are hesitant, highly sensitive, or need more time to feel comfortable.
- Enjoy communicating with parents, understanding that in baby and toddler classes, we're teaching the parent as well as the child.
- Be comfortable adapting a lesson on the go, rather than rigidly following a program when a child's needs tell you otherwise.
- Be genuinely curious about why we teach a skill a certain way — not just the sequence of activities or songs — and open to learning the Aquanat way alongside your existing experience.
- Be reliable, professional, and comfortable working as part of a small, supportive team.
- Be willing to commit to the same day(s) each week, and enjoy having a break over school holidays.
Training and commitment
Aquanat has developed its approach to early childhood swimming over many years, so even an experienced instructor joining us will undertake a period of observation, mentoring and practical training before teaching independently.
We're happy to invest considerable time in the right person — and we're looking for someone who is prepared to invest in us too. This role suits someone looking for a long-term teaching home rather than short-term work.
Our environment
Aquanat is a small, established swim school operating from our intimate, private, warm (34–35°C) indoor pool in Alfred Cove. Our classes are deliberately small, so instructors get to know their swimmers and families and help every child feel seen. We value kindness, professionalism, curiosity, reliability and good communication — and teachers who can be playful and have fun with children while staying attentive to safety and learning.
